Vince Gill’s answer to instructions against singing about Jesus

Vince Gill, a renowned country music artist, has released over 20 albums and earned numerous awards, including more Grammys than any other male country performer. Gill’s rise to fame began in 1979 with the country rock band Pure Prairie League, and in 2007, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Even after four decades, Gill remains a highly sought-after musician, recently performing with Little Big Town at the Grand Ole Opry. During one such performance, Gill faced a challenge as a devoted Christian when he was prohibited from singing religious music, particularly songs mentioning Jesus.

Undeterred, Gill chose to creatively defy the restriction by performing “Why Me Lord,” a moving song written by Kris Kristofferson in 1972 and famously performed by Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. His rendition earned a standing ovation, demonstrating the power of his performance and his commitment to his faith and artistic integrity.

Gill’s courage to stay true to his beliefs and his artistry was evident, reaffirming his rightful place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Watch his stirring rendition of “Why Me Lord” at this link.
